For the commercial kitchen! It’s not much - $4,500 – but it will move us one step closer to a regular home! Yeehaw! We will have to match it to win the funding, but we shouldn’t have any trouble coming up with supplies and equipment we really need – some we’ve already bought and other stuff that’s been on the wish list since we started this baking adventure!
We hope to get the basement done for the new house and then we can move out of the garage and into the basement – we will then have dedicated space for the commercial kitchen – and a place to go to when it just is too crazy! We got our first official catering job this morning and it looks like this is going to fly!
Just so you have an idea of what we do and how this works…..this past Thursday, John baked the following to take to Glasgow and sell to his list of customers:
14 loaves of banana nut bread - 10 loaves of chocolate zuchini - 10 loaves of pumpkin bread - 9 loaves of apple bread - 9 loaves of green tomato bread - 9 loaves of blueberry bread - 9 loaves of sourdough bread - 5 loaves of Amish white bread - 5 loaves of Amish wheat bread - 6 loaves of rosemary garlic bread - 10 cinnamon tea rings - 4 pans of cinnamon rolls - 6 pans of sticky buns - 30 brownies and 46 no bake cookies!
That is a total of 86 assorted loaves of breads, 20 sweet rolls and sticky buns, and 76 cookies and brownies. We do this (sometimes more – never less….) twice a week. We also spend time purchasing the groceries to make all this stuff, prepping the kitchen to make it, then the packaging to put it all in, the cleaning up of the kitchen and the resting up and getting ready for the next time! WHEW!
We also have an extensive garden and I work off the farm! Makes for a busy week and when you don’t hear from us – you can kind of figure out why!!! I am glad we have this spot so you can leave comments and see what we’ve been working on! Hopefully, I will be able to find the camera so we can start photographing all these happenings!
Til next time, enjoy your life, make the most of your friends and family and tell someone you love them!

Blueberries and business.....
As today draws to a close, we feel really blessed to be here on this 46 acre parcel of land. We spent most of this morning working in the blueberries; weeding and mowing. There are some holes in the blueberry patch and others are doing better than expected!
This funny Kentucky weather has been challenge this year. There has been so much rain that the best thing growing has been the weeds! The asparagus is unrecognizable for the weeds growing in between the rows. The blueberries are well camouflaged with blackberry brambles, mini sassafras trees and who knows what! We need some serious clippers there boy!!!
For the time being, we are glad that it's back to just John and I. It will give us some time to get back to our farm and to realize why we're here - and how we came to be here.
We are thankful for the bread business and the many customers that call and place their orders; we are thankful for the businesses that call and invite us in; but most importantly, we are thankful for the talent that God gave us to be able to take a little loaf of chocolate zuchini bread and turn it into a very profitable business. We are thankful!
Back from vacation……
And it’s back to baking and banking…. The real world! We had a wonderful time with my family and touring some old stomping grounds. John and I had fun visiting with my cousins and aunts and uncles. Eating some fabulous food and then spending a day in Amish county – Holmes County, Ohio.
I am sure John is so happy we took my new Hyundai and he got out of driving - for the most part…. Seems like he snoozed alot on the way home! We took a very leisurely route home and did some shopping, did some sight seeing and recovered from the harrowing visit of the hired hand from hell. Be very careful who you let onto your farm..... Maybe one of these days, I will be in a better frame to tell *that* story but for now, it will remain a mystery to you all!
We're home - we're safe and all's well on the ol' Tubbs' Farmstead!
